Extending Bgp to Support the Concept of “global As”

چکیده

The standard inter-domain routing protocol in the Internet today is Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) version 4. Studies conducted in recent years reveal that BGP suffers from several inherent problems, the most important of which are slow convergence and instability. BGP is also known to suffer from lack of Quality of Service (QoS) and inter-AS multicast support. In this work we present a new paradigm, called the “Global ISP” (G-ISP) that aims in solving, or at least alleviating, the above-mentioned problems. One of the most important properties of the proposed paradigm is that it can be gradually deployed in the Internet. A G-ISP can be viewed as an additional ISP that provides transit services to its customers over an Overlay Network. However, a customer of a G-ISP will usually have no direct connectivity with the G-ISP. Therefore, the BGP relationship between a G-ISP and its customers is conducted over a virtual link established over multiple intermediate physical links and routers. This is the main difference between a G-ISP and a “regular ISP” and it requires some extension to the standard BGP protocol. This extension, its effect on the BGP protocol, algorithms for building a G-ISP overlay network, and possible applications of the G-ISP paradigm are described in this thesis. How Can a Global Social Support System Hope to Achieve Fairer Competiveness?; Comment on “A Global Social Support System: What the International Community Could Learn From the United States’ National Basketball Association”

Ooms et al sets out some good general principles for a global social support system to improve fairer global competitiveness as a result of redistribution. This commentary sets out to summarize some of the conditions that would need to be satisfied for it to level up gradients in inequality through such a social support system, using the National Basketball Association (NBA) example as a point ...

State Support: A Prerequisite for Global Health Network Effectiveness; Comment on “Four Challenges that Global Health Networks Face”

Shiffman recently summarized lessons for network effectiveness from an impressive collection of case-studies. However, in common with most global health governance analysis in recent years, Shiffman underplays the important role of states in these global networks. As the body which decides and signs international agreements, often provides the resourcing, and is responsible for implementing ini...

Inter-Domain Routing in Optical Networks

This paper has outlined a method (called OBGP) of extending BGP to support lightpath setup and management across an optical network. The development of OBGP has been discussed by reviewing current BGP behavior and design requirements for OBGP. An implementation of OBGP using simulation tools has been presented, along with initial test results, which have shown that a seamless migration from BGP...

The Global Health Policies of the EU and its Member States: A Common Vision?

Background This article assesses the global health policies of the European Union (EU) and those of its individual member states. So far EU and public health scholars have paid little heed to this, despite the large budgets involved in this area. While the European Commission has attempted to define the ‘EU role in Global Health’ in 2010, member states are active in the domain of global health ...

The Need for Global Application of the Accountability for Reasonableness Approach to Support Sustainable Outcomes; Comment on “Expanded HTA: Enhancing Fairness and Legitimacy”

The accountability for reasonableness (AFR) concept has been developed and discussed for over two decades. Its interpretation has been studied in several ways partly guided by the specific settings and the researchers involved. This has again influenced the development of the concept, but not led to universal application. The potential use in health technology assessments (HTAs) has recently be...
